Nov. 27 is Giving Tuesday, and this year, your Lucas Community Center is going for gold.
If you haven’t heard, Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. It is celebrated annually on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.
Here in Richland County, we are blessed with our own Giving Tuesday initiative — Richland Gives. Facilitated by the Richland County Foundation, Richland Gives provides local nonprofits a level playing field and a platform to receive generous donations to help them achieve their mission in the community
In 2017, the LCC participated in Richland Gives for the first time, and to be honest, our expectations were limited. To our amazement, we raised a total of $10,895 in route to a second-place finish behind Little Buckeye Children’s Museum.
During 2018, we have used these funds and other donations to continue to improve the LCC. We tiled the entrance wall with bear paw prints and name plaques of all our Founders Club donors; built a pavilion for picnics and outside activities; brought in new sand for the volleyball courts; held free pizza parties after all home football games for the whole community; removed trees and dead brush in the back lot; purchased a storage shed outside equipment and gravel for the base to the shed; provided funding for an outdoor stage to be built soon; installed sound-proofing panels in Hanley Hall; and provided free exercise classes and summer youth activities through the YMCA.
As you can see, this money goes a LONG way. But we need your help.
So, we’re asking everyone who can to help us go for gold this November by giving to the Lucas Community Center.
Donations through Richland Gives started counting on Nov. 1. We’d encourage everyone, however. to give during the exciting Giving Tuesday event on Nov. 27 when advantageous bonuses can be earned. Donations must be processed through richlandgives.mightycause.com. You can find the LCC by searching for Lucas Community Center in the search bar at the top right of the page or by following the links on the LCC website, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Richland Gives only accepts credit card donations. If you’d prefer to write a check, an LCC board member will be happy to deposit your check in the LCC account to be applied during the event.
This is a very exciting event for the many worthy nonprofits in Richland County, and you will find your Lucas Community Center working hard to provide a place for our residents and the surrounding area to gather for fellowship, education, and recreation.
Please join us to celebrate this wonderful place in the small community with a BIG heart.
